I'm sure you've heard of supercomputers, those powerful machines that are capable of doing things that seem straight out of a science fiction movie. But how powerful are these computing giants in practice? The MOOC on Supercomputing launched by the Foundation for Science and Technology with the support of EUROCC Portugal aims to give you the answer to that question.
The NAU MOOC on Supercomputing created by EuroCC Portugal, with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology, aims to introduce the world of supercomputers to anyone, so that anyone interested knows how they are developed, how they work, what the advantages of using them are and where they can be found in Portugal and Europe. And all this for the first time in Portuguese!
In addition to the training component, this NAU course will serve as an awareness-raising tool to show that supercomputing exists and is within everyone's reach.
The Magic of Supercomputers
Imagine computers capable of performing trillions of calculations per second. That's exactly what a supercomputer does. This capacity has many uses in the most diverse areas of knowledge, from weather forecasts and earthquake simulations to medical discoveries and the development of new materials.

Access the World of Supercomputing
You don't need to be a computer scientist or genius to get involved with supercomputing. The "Supercomputing" course consists of 5 modules developed in Portuguese.
The first module is dedicated to the fundamental concepts of supercomputing. The second explains how supercomputing is used in research in Portugal. In the third module you can explore advanced computing and its practical applications and in the following ones you will learn more about the National Advanced Computing Network and the resources it provides.

Until March 28, 2024, anyone who is curious about supercomputers is welcome. The course is designed for people of all ages and levels of knowledge.
