Phishing is sending a fraudulent email in bulk, hoping that some people will open it and do something about it. It is based on the premise that most people will open the email, without suspecting that it is fraudulent.
How to spot a fraudulent e-mail?
Check that the e-mail is specifically addressed to you: The fact that it is a "bulk" and untargeted message is a good indicator of a fake email. Fake e-mails are usually not personalized.
Unsolicited e-mail: When you receive an e-mail from a person, entity or company you don't know, doubt it and consider it suspicious. When the sender of the e-mail is unknown or the name seems strange, even if the subject seems important, do not fall into the temptation of opening it, it may be a "virus".
E-mail from an unknown place: When you receive an e-mail from a place where you have never been, don't know where it is, and have no affinity whatsoever, be suspicious, as it may be a fraudulent e-mail.
Spelling and grammatical errors: Read the e-mail carefully! Often, fake e-mails contain spelling and grammatical errors.
E-mail asking for money: When you receive e-mails promising rewards, offers or great opportunities, when you click on a link or share confidential information, be suspicious, it's fraud in the first place. If you are asked for money, even if it is a friend, acquaintance or relative, always doubt it. The best thing is to contact the sender and verify the veracity of the story. Remember that the sender's e-mail address may have been "hacked" and the e-mail sent by a hacker!
Request for personal and confidential data: If an e-mail asks you for passwords, NIB, NIF or any other personal and confidential data, be suspicious! Banks, financial institutions and other authorities do not send e-mails requesting personal data through a link.
Contradictory offer: When the product or service that you are being offered is not related to the main activity of the company presented or if the offer is so tempting that you can hardly resist, be wary!
Different emails: If when you try to reply to the email you received by clicking reply, and you find that the sender's email is different then the message you received is most likely a scam.
