As part of the Engineers for a Day Program and in partnership with the INCoDe.2030 Program, the event Shaping The Digital Future: International Day of Girls will take place.
October 11 marks the International Day of the Girl Child, a United Nations initiative to recognize the rights of girls and young women and the unique challenges they face around the world.
The event will be broadcasted online and will take place at 9:30am, at Romeu Correia Municipal Forum, in Almada, with the support of the City Council of Almada and Huawei Technologies.
Under the scope of the Engineers for a Day Program and in partnership with the INCoDe.2030 Program, the event Shaping The Digital Future: International Day of Girls will take place, with online broadcasting, at 9h30, at the Romeu Correia Municipal Forum, in Almada and counts with the support of the City Council of Almada and Huawei Technologies.
The event is free of charge, with registration by form.
The Engineers for a Day Program's main goal is to promote, among young female students in primary and secondary education, the option for engineering and technology (STEM), deconstructing the idea that these are male domains and fighting the stereotypes that condition their school and career options.
The activities, ranging from engineering challenges and study visits to mentoring, role modeling and workshops, always have a multidisciplinary component and complement the school program and involve a large network of partnerships from various sectors of activity. The Girls in ICT Week, one of the most eagerly-awaited activities throughout the school year, continues to be held, as well as the celebration of other events aimed at strengthening the Program in the fight against the segregation of professions, the increase of women in technology and engineering in Portugal and the promotion of gender equality in education and employment.
Promoted by the Portuguese Government, the Engineers for a Day Program is integrated in the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination - Portugal More Equal and, since its creation in 2017, it has already reached 12,554 young people in 3rd cycle and high school, through practical laboratory activities, role model sessions and mentoring.
The coordination of the Program remains the same as the last editions, with the presence of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, the INCoDe.2030 Program, the Portuguese Association for Diversity and Inclusion, Instituto Superior Técnico and the Order of Engineers.
