The service manager RCTS CERT - computer security incident response service - from the FCCN Unit, Carlos Friaças, has entered the IPv6 Hall of Fame for his contributions to "the development and implementation of IPv6 technology".
The FCCN Unit has a historically significant activity in the use and dissemination of IPv6 technology, also known as next-generation Internet, and was a pioneer in supporting this technology in the academic context. In addition to the evolution of the Science, Technology and Society Network (RCTS) - which supports IPv6 services - we highlight the work carried out on GigaPIX, which has enabled operators to peer with this technology for many years. Over the last few years, Carlos Friaças has excelled in spreading the word about IPv6 technology, giving courses in Europe and the Portuguese-speaking world, as well as speaking at conferences in various parts of the world.
Inspired by the Internet Hall of Fame, the IPv6 Hall of Fame recognizes the work of more than 150 professionals in various fields for their "outstanding contributions. "Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the only way to sustain the Internet's future growth beyond today's needs," the organization stresses on the initiative's website.
