From March 1st, the FCCN Unit will be celebrating the contributions of women in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) by joining the campaign of its European counterpart, the GÉANT network.
The month of March is internationally recognized asWomen's History Month. "This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women in STEM fields and to empower future generations to increase female representation," explains GÉANT.
For this reason, GÉANT and its community of NRENs will be running the #WomenInStem campaign throughout March, sharing short testimonials from participants of various nationalities and other longer interviews. The various contributions will be posted on GÉANT's social networks addressing topics such as the importance of diversity, the challenges and obstacles faced by women, or the power of female collaboration.
During the month of March, the FCCN Unit is once again joining this campaign and will also be publishing several testimonies from women working in science and research.
With this campaign, we also seek to emphasize an important point about why these fields still need more male allies who advocate for greater gender equality:
Without men joining the conversation, and contributing to the promotion of female representation for these fields, this issue becomes simply treated as a "women's issue," only discussed by women and for a strictly female audience - something that is clearly not the goal. Since men still dominate the STEM fields in numbers, they need to be integral parts of the effort for more supportive and inclusive work environments.
Throughout the month of March, follow us on our social networks and keep up with the various shares:
