The Unit's service FCCN for recording, editing and publishing educational videos has a new website, which brings with it new features . The new Educast website offers the RCTS community a number of advantages.
This new portal facilitates access to the videos produced by the national academic and scientific community, with the main focus on improving the search of contents on the platform, namely through a tag system.
The contents are more prominent in the new version of the landing page, reveals the service manager, Nelson Schäller, adding that the new page includes "a dark mode and a more modern and bold look and feel ", as well as being responsive on all devices: smartphones, tablets and desktop.
There are also significant improvements in content search, which now use the Solr search platform. On the other hand, there is now a better integration between the various service components (portal, content manager, player and HTML5 editor), as well as the inclusion of more scientific areas.
The novelties also concern the focus on the streaming format (with custom layouts, control of playback speed, chapters, hyperlinks, etc...) and the simplification of the navigation structure. The federated authentication technology was also included in both the portal and the content manager.
In 2021, Educast registered around 10,000 educational videos published, with a total of 548,008 minutes produced. During the same period, more than 13,000 new users were registered and around 1,000 new channels were created.
The Educast service is also developing a new video recorder compatible with various operating systems, which will be launched during the first four months of 2022, and will allow audio, video and data recording synchronously, thus giving greater autonomy in the production of audiovisual content to the various member institutions.
We remind you that this service aims to provide the academic community with a platform dedicated to the production of audiovisual and multimedia content for educational and non-commercial purposes, having been an essential tool throughout the pandemic, with the change from face-to-face classes to online.
The recorded lessons can be easily integrated into higher education institutions' e-Learning systems, portals and websites, and the videos are available via the portal for students and the general public.
