RCAAP - Repositórios Científicos de Acesso Aberto em Portugal has created a website that publicises activities throughout the country that are linked to the international Open Access week.
From www.acessolivre.pt, RCAAP is organizing the celebrations of Open Access Week 2020. This is the website that brings together all the activities and useful information related to this international Open Access Week, which runs from October 19-25.
At this address, it is possible to follow the events organised by the 11 member higher education institutions and find information about this international initiative, as well as the respective publicity material.
This international Open Access Week or Open Access Week 2020 is an initiative SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) that seeks to "disseminate Open Access to knowledge", explains the RCAAP, in this portal.
To this end, the week encourages institutional repositories and scientific journals to make available scientific content and educational resources linked to the theme "Planning Equitable Foundations for Open Knowledge", as well as to boost initiatives such as debates, conferences, etc...
What is Open Access?
The Open Access model is an international movement that seeks to ensure free and open access to scholarly information (such as publications and data). The definition of an Open Access publication therefore implies the absence of financial, technical or legal barriers to access.
The principles of this movement were founded in the "Berlin Declaration for Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities" signed in 2003, which can be found at here.
