Cycle of three webinars "Cultural Heritage on the Web: How to preserve for the future?" runs until April 19 and aims to disseminate the services of Arquivo.pt, empowering citizens to preserve the historical heritage preserved on the Web.
In a joint initiative, Arquivo.pt and Wikimedia Portugal are promoting a cycle of three webinars on digital preservation. After the first two events took place on February 22 and March 22, the next webinar is scheduled for April 19, starting at 3pm, and aims to demonstrate, through case studies, "how anyone can archive information published on the web. Remember that eighty percent of the pages published on the Web disappear or are changed, just one year after their publication. At the same time, the information in Wikipedia is based on information mostly published on the Web. In this sense, the disappearance of reference information undermines the reliability of Wikipedia articles.
On its website, Wikimedia Portugal highlights that the goal of this cycle of webinars is to "present the services of Arquivo.pt and disseminate their use" so that the historical heritage published on the web "can be preserved and explored by any citizen. Entitled "Cultural heritage on the Web: how to preserve for the future?", this cycle of online conferences includes pedagogical content that "enriches the training of information and communication professionals but also the digital literacy of any citizen".
The first two webinars focused, respectively, on Arquivo.pt's relationship with the preservation of digital memory (February 22) and the use of APIs in the automatic processing of preserved web information (March 22).
